Kevin Simon's (UT linebacker) dad posts on another board I look at. Here's what he had to say about the UT lb's at the combine.

Almost all of the linemen at the combine have been doing between 20 and 30 reps with 225 pounds in the bench press. Kevin and Omar Gaither put up linemen-like numbers in the bench-press which should get a few more people's attention.

Kevin did 26 reps which was 2nd among what looks to be about 30 LB'ers and Gaither did 23 which is amazing to me since both only go about 230 pounds soaking wet. Several players have reported doing over 30 reps before but at the combines they don't allow you to "fudge" or "short-arm" on your lifts like some places do.

Lifts have to be technically sound. EJ Hawk did 25 and DeMeco Ryans of Alabama did 23 reps. So far, the interviews are going well and only one team has expressed serious reservations about Kevin's medical report.

He doesn't feel like he is where he wants to be speed-wise, so he will wait and run at our Pro Day on March 15th, giving himself 2 more weeks to prepare. Kevin's medical exams are completed with an "all's clear" from none other than, Dr. Dillingham himself, the head of the NFL medical staff that has to sign-off on all of these guys.

MRI's are next and unless something unexpected shows up his injury history will still hurt him but it may not drop him quite as far down in the draft as some people have thought."

Vernon Davis just ran a 4.38 40 as a Tight End. He may be the 1st TE ever to break 4.4. AMAZING.

Davis is a BEAST. There's talk he may go 6th to the 49ers if they don't draft AJ Hawk instead. Unless someone makes a move or a deal with the 49ers to get drafted that high, or Hawk/Davis are difficult to sign, then it's between those two for the San Fran pick.

Hey just wondering how Jimmy Williams looked? Also do they say which teams are looking at certian players or which players would fit on certian teams? Basically wha I am hearing is that Dallas is looking at Croyle (sp) possible a 2nd rd pick for them.

They havent really focused on players going to certain teams. They have in fact said who each team has had interest in and who each team has interviewed.

I know the bears interviewed Sin Moss, Chad Jackson, and Marcedes Lewis.

As for Jimmy Williams, the db's dont work out until tomorrow but ill post his info when he works out.

Crazie, I think Davis is just such a freak that it would be silly to draft Hawk at that point. Hawk is a good player but there are going to be some great linebackers in round 2. Tatupu and Odell Thurman were both round 2 picks last year. I just dont think that Hawk has Urlacher type ability to be picked that high. He has the instincts and the love for football much like Katzenmoyer, but that doesnt make him a superstar. Davis is the type I think could be a superstar.

Any chance they are able to sign Ferguson at #6?

I think Ferguson is gone before the #6 pick...probably #4 to the Jets.
